REDDING, Calif.- A pedestrian was struck and killed on State Route 44 east of Hilltop Dr. at around 8:24 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.

The driver of a gray Chevrolet Tahoe, 53-year-old Tracy Mccamly, was driving in the left lane going eastbound at 60 miles per hour.

When Mccamly passed under the Hilltop Dr. over-crossing a 34-year-old man ran into traffic from the south roadway and ran north, directly into the path of the Chevrolet Tahoe, according to CHP.

Mccamly applied the brakes to avoid the pedestrian but was unable to avoid him. The pedestrian was hit and thrown onto the eastbound roadway.

First responders arrived and pronounced the pedestrian dead.
