QUINCY, Calif. - An intoxicated driver was arrested after a solo vehicle crash that killed the passenger on Highway 70 Tuesday morning, California Highway Patrol said.

CHP said the driver Christopher Carlisle, 40, and passenger Lacey Duval, 34, were heading east on Highway 70 just east of C Road as the crash happened around 8:39 a.m.

The vehicle left the roadway at a high rate of speed as Carlisle was not able to negotiate a left-hand curve and ended up leaving the roadway down a steep embankment.

The vehicle went airborne and collided with a large tree at the bottom of the embankment.

Carlisle was driving Duval’s vehicle with a suspended license and under the influence as she sat in the passenger’s seat, CHP said.

Duval died as a result of the crash and Carlisle sustained moderate injuries.

Carlisle was arrested on scene and the investigation is ongoing.
