REDDING, Calif. – Redding Police arrested a felon on probation for having a loaded handgun.

Police said 56-year-old Charles French, of Redding, was also wanted on an arrest warrant. Officers discovered French and another person passed out in a car early Tuesday morning in a gas station parking lot on Eureka Way.

During a search of French’s vehicle, an RPD officer located a loaded 9mm handgun on the passenger seat, well within French’s reach. French is a convicted felon and therefore prohibited from owning or possessing firearms. French was also in possession of drug smoking paraphernalia, according to RPD.

He was booked into the Shasta County Jail. The other person in the car was released with no charges.
