Put on your thinking caps! Butte County high school students fought hard for the chance to be in a state-wide scholastic competition.

The Butte County Academic Decathlon is an academic competition open to high school students from all school districts in Butte County.

Oroville Union High School, Las Plumas High School, Paradise High School, and “Inspire” School of Arts and Sciences competed.

This year there were 53 high school students, at least 30 judges and proctors, the annual theme this year is "Africa.”

These teams are competing for an opportunity to advance to the California state competition March 22 to March 24 in Sacramento and represent Butte County.

“It’s a really just a fun academic competition. it engages students. they have to practice speeches, interview skills. Very important skills,” said Mary Ellen Garrahy, an academic decathlon coordinator.

Paradise won the Butte County Academic Decathlon on Saturday they beat two-time in-a-row winner, Las Plumas.

Paradise will be heading off to the state competition next month in Sacramento. Good luck to the Paradise team!
