9:15 p.m. update: A man and his two pets are lucky to be alive after escaping a fire in Paradise.

Firefighters responded to Kemen Lane for reports of a fully-involved structure fire just before 7:30 Tuesday night.

The homeowner was inside at the time when he heard an explosion from inside the house, and then the smoke detectors immediately started going off.

The man and his pets immediately left escaped, and firefighters were able to knock down the fire within five minutes.

They were able to save half of the single-wide mobile home, but the other half suffered a lot of heat-related and smoke damage.

"If there was any hesitation, these buildings go up very rapidly so he did the right thing by getting his valuables and getting out as soon as he could," said Joe Chavez, a captain with Cal Fire.

The cause for this fire remains under investigation.
