Overnight traffic to start through Monument Fire on Highway 299

Caltrans will be doing using a pilot car to allow traffic through Highway 299 in the area of the Monument Fire.

TRINITY COUNTY, Calif. - Caltrans has updated its overnight schedule for Highway 299 starting on Thursday.

Caltrans will be using a pilot car seven days a week from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Highway 299 in the area of the Monument Fire.

30 to 40-minute delays are anticipated but traffic will be running simultaneously in both directions.

Caltrans said the road is closed near Burnt Ranch and just east of School House Rd. to Del Loma near Angie Lane.

The current weekday schedule will remain in place with escorted traffic control.

The current schedule is traffic is escorted through the closure every 90 minutes between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Opening schedules are 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Over the weekend, the closure is open at the top of the hour between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Caltrans is asking drivers to not arrive earlier than 15 minutes prior to the opening.

Dense fog has developed across parts of northern California Monday morning and the potential for light showers will return today. We'll dry out and warm up on Tuesday, but more cool and wet weather is expected mid week. A more substantial wet system is currently projected to move into our region this weekend.
