OROVILLE, Calif. – Butte County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man following a November drive-by shooting that took place in Oroville.

On the evening of Nov. 7, a victim, two vehicles, and a residence had been shot at in a drive-by shooting near Mountain Vista Drive in Oroville, according to BCSO.

Authorities said on Nov. 19, they served a search warrant on Butte Avenue in Oroville. During the search, they contacted 26-year-old Johnny Thao. Inside his home, authorities located ammunition, evidence of marijuana sales, and evidence related to the Nov. 7 drive-by shooting, according to BCSO.

Thao was arrested on Nov. 19 for possession of ammunition, and possession of marijuana for sale.

Since then, detectives said they processed digital and physical evidence that was found during the investigation. This led to Thao’s arrest on Jan. 4 for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, assault with a deadly weapon, and participating in a criminal street gang, according to BCSO. Thao’s bail was set at over $2 million.
