ORLAND, Calif. – An Oroville man is facing attempted murder charges following a shooting and hit-and-run on Christmas Day, according to Orland Police.

It all started on Christmas Day around 12:30 p.m. Orland Police responded to a home on Eva Drive for a report of shots fired.

Officers contacted a 57-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman at the residence. Authorities said the investigation revealed 25-year-old Jon Kelley III of Oroville, showed up at the residence to see his child in foster care.

Kelley pepper-sprayed the male victim, pointed a handgun at both victims, fired but missed according to OPD. Kelley then left in a gold colored sedan.

Around 2:30 p.m. Kelley was involved in a hit-and-run collision in Chico. He was detained by CHP officers. Orland PD arrived on the scene and took Kelley into custody.

The firearm that authorities believe was used in the incident was recovered. Kelley was booked into the Glenn County Jail. He faces two counts of attempted homicide, and assault with a deadly weapon, among other charges. Kelley’s bail was set at $580,000.
