PLUMAS LAKE, Calif. - A Yuba County Sheriff's Deputy arrested an Oroville man on Monday around 4 a.m., near the intersection of Wilcox Ranch Rd. and Casa Dulce Way in Plumas Lake.

Samuel Smiley, 30, of Oroville, was found with stolen mail in his vehicle, according to the Yuba County Sheriff's Office. Smiley was arrested for similar crimes by YCSO on March 8, 2021.

Deputies on patrol said they approached two people sleeping in a vehicle that had a stolen license plate that did not match the vehicle's VIN number. The other person in the vehicle was on probation for theft.

A search of the vehicle revealed stolen property and various sets of mailbox keys. Deputies said Smiley was found in possession of a stolen driver's license that was used to open a casino player's account.

Smiley was booked into the Yuba County Jail for possession of stolen property, identity theft, fraud, possession of burglary tools and conspiracy.
