Las Plumas High School Student Arrested After School Shooting Threat

Police arrested a 16-year-old student after making a school shooting threat at Las Plumas high in Oroville.

Thursday afternoon school staff found graffiti written on a wall in the boys' bathroom as well as several notes in a stall, one of which threatened a school shooting on Friday.

The school immediately reported this, and Butte County Sheriff's Office Deputies were there to provide a police presence and investigate the incident.

The school was never placed on lockdown and no announcement was made, but the administration did send an email informing the parents, saying though they didn't believe this was a credible threat, police were investigating it and taking it very seriously.

"It is disappointing. It's disappointing. I know that a lot of schools have to deal with this and I guess that's just where things are today," said Las Plumas High School Principal Dan Ramos.

The student said there were no other people involved and he did not intend to carry the threat out.

The young man was arrested for making criminal threats and booked into Butte County Juvenile Hall Thursday afternoon.

Ramos said the school has to follow the educational code for a terroristic threat and that does recommend expulsion, but they will have to look further into it before they decide what to do.
