Wife arrested in connection to husband's murder, victim identified

UPDATE: An Oroville mom is now in custody for the murder of Mateo Lange.

UPDATE: 5:53 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6 - Oroville Police say 22-year-old Mateo Lange was the man killed after being shot by Jessica Nichols.

Nichols is being held on $1 million bail.

UPDATE: 3:52 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6 – An Oroville mom is now in custody for murder. Police said she was arrested in the death of her husband.

The killing happened at an apartment complex on 18 Grand Ave. in Oroville Friday morning.

Police told Action News Now 22-year-old Jessica Nichols was arrested. Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said she used a handgun.

Ramsey said the couple has a two-year-old child who was home but was not harmed. The child was taken into protective custody.

OROVILLE, Calif. – The Oroville Police Department is investigating a suspicious death that happened at the Guardian Apartments on 18 Grand Ave. Friday morning.

Oroville Police Chief, Joe Deal, told Action News Now a call came in around 6:50 a.m. Friday from one of the tenants, saying there was a dispute. Officers arrived and said they made contact with several tenants.

Officers said they learned an incident did occur at the apartments and found one person dead. Police said they are ruling this death as suspicious.

Chief Deal could not confirm to Action News Now whether it was a male or woman who was found dead. 

Authorities also say they are not looking for any suspects for this case. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward and call 530-538-2448 and ask to speak with a sergeant. The District Attorney is also on scene.
