OROVILLE, Calif. - Construction on the Oroville Dam Spillway will once again mean that Oroville will have its Independence Day Fireworks show over the North Forebay in Thermalito instead of over Lake Oroville.
There are plenty of spots for viewing, including the Thermalito Forebay Recreation Area and the Forebay Aquatic Center, the South Forebay Boat Ramps and from the water, and the Nelson Sports Complex. Normal entry fees will apply to the Forebay locations.
The festivities at the Nelson Sports Complex, 2255 6th Street, are FREE. The gates open at 6:30 p.m. There will be free parking, crafts, food vendors and restrooms. The Swimming pools will be open from 4 - 7 with a $5 entry fee.
You're encouraged to bring coolers, picnic baskets, lawn chairs and blankets. no glass, alcohol, pets or parking on dry grass.
The Noon Rotary Club of Oroville is spearheading the event, and has raised money through donations from businesses and individuals. The fireworks are expected to start at about 30 minutes after sundown.
Organizers are reminding people of extremely high fire danger and that all fireworks are illegal outside the Oroville city limits. Also, no private drones will be allowed in the fireworksarea o r State Parks Recreation Area.
It's also a good idea to bring a flashlight for the walk back to your car.
