ORLAND, Calif. - Orland city leaders will meet Monday to discuss potential flooding in the Stony Creek subdivision.
Mayor Bruce Roundy said that Black Butte Dam releases have caused Stony Creek to swell and have threatened some homes in the Stony Creek Subdivision, just north of the city limits.
Roundy said that if the water gets too close, they may need to evacuate some homes.
“We saw that it was encroaching near our most north subdivision about 300 yards away, but now it’s maybe like 50 yards away and it’s eroding rapidly,” Roundy said. “So we’ve got a situation out there near our town. The problem is it’s not in our jurisdiction.”
He blames Arrondo weeds, an invasive species growing in the creek bed, for pushing the slow of the water outward which erodes the banks.
The problem spot is on private property, which complicates who is responsible for fixing the situation.
