CHICO, Calif. - Thursday was opening day for the Silver Dollar Fair in Chico.

In total, 70,000 people are expected to attend this year.

Fair organizers said throughout the year, the fairground bring in more than $20 million to the local economy.

Today's entry fee was only $1 as a promotion for the fair.

Fairgoers were more than thrilled with today's event.

"It's good, it's fun and exciting. I bring my girls and my kids every year and our cousins so we're doubled up in pairs so we can ride twos and we love it so we come here until midnight and it's fun," said one fairgoer, Katie Newton.

The fair will be open from Friday 4-11 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Monday (Memorial Day) 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
