Pedestrian dead after hit by vehicle in Redding

CHP said one man was killed in an early morning collision on Monday.

REDDING. Calif. - California Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a fatal collision at approximately 2:45 a.m. on Monday that left one man dead, according to CHP.

A man was walking on Riverland Dr. going south of Knighton Rd., while the driver, Oscar Castro Jr. was south of Riverland Dr. traveling north of the man.

The man was walking in the southbound lane as Castro’s vehicle approached.

Castro did not have time to stop or steer away from as his vehicle struck the man.

Castro was evaluated at the scene.

Drugs and alcohol were not found to be a factor in the collision.

Alcohol and drug impairment for the deceased man is unknown at this time.
