UPDATE 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 - The Yuba County Sheriff's Office has identified the man killed in an officer-involved shooting in Linda as 45-year-old Jahmal Derrick Stewart who was reported as a transient in the Marysville area.
The original 9-1-1 call regarding the assault incident was determined to be a robbery.
The assault victim was an elderly man in his 70s that police say was attacked by Stewart, beaten and had his cane taken away.
According to police, the victim did not know the suspect and the attack appears to have been at random.
The investigation is still ongoing.
UPDATE 11:47 pm Monday, Jan. 14, 2019: The Yuba County Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left an assault suspect dead.
The Sheriff's Office says it happened around 3:30 p.m. this afternoon in the community of Linda. They say the caller reported a man beating another person with an unknown weapon.
After deputies arrived, they announced on the radio that shots had been fired.
The Sheriff's Office says the suspect, an adult male, was declared deceased at the scene.
His identity has not yet been released.
LINDA, Calif. (KCRA)- Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Yuba County on Monday that sent one to the hospital.
Deputies responded to reports about an assault around 3:40 p.m. on Monday in the area of North Beale Road.
When officers approached, the suspect who reportedly assaulted the other person turned toward officers and fired shots, according to the Yuba County Sheriff's Department.
The suspect, an adult male, was declared deceased at the scene.
His identity has not been released yet.
