ROSEVILLE, Calif. - A Placer County Sheriff's Deputy shot a man who drove off after a traffic stop, dragging the Deputy with him.
Sheriff's officials say it happened just before 1:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, in the east parking lot of the Thunder Valley Casino near Roseville.
They say the Deputy was leaning in the driver's side window when the driver took off, and the Deputy shot the unidentified driver in fear of being killed.
Investigators say the driver pulled over near the intersection of Fiddyment and Athens Avenue. Deputies ordered him to get out of his car, and he was treated at the scene before being taken to the hospital. Sheriff's Officials say he is expected to survive.
The Deputy received minor injuries.
The incident is under investigation by the Placer County Sheriff's Office, the District Attorney's Office, and the Professional Standards Unit.
The Deputy was placed on administrative leave.
