Suspected multi-county serial killer faces life in prison
A suspected serial killer appeared in court on Thursday for the murder of three people. Ryan Blinston is suspected of slitting the throat and attempting the murder a man. Blinston is accused of murdering a woman and burning her car. The same woman’s body was found in the Feather River near Belden. Action News Now spoke with the daughter of one victim to see how she is coping with the loss.
Neighbors react to deadly barrier crash in North Chico
A woman was pronounced dead at the scene when she crashed through a barrier in Chico. One neighbor said people speed down Eaton Road often. Witness said the woman was traveling between 80 mph to 100 mph before crashing into the barrier. The barrier at the end of Eaton Road was placed there in April due to loitering concerns.
Business in Oroville reacts to new mask mandate
The general manager for Celestino’s in Oroville spoke with Action News Now about how the new mask mandate from Gov. Gavin Newsom will affect his business. Joe Buck, the general manager, said he is ready to get back to some normalcy and will not require people to wear a mask in the restaurant starting June 15.
People feeling the pain at the gas pump
Gas is topping at $4.00 a gallon and one couple said they are having to cut back on some of their expenses. Numbers show that the average price for regular gas in Redding is about $4.02 and last year it was about $2.68. In Tehama County, gas is about $4.01 and Butte County is at about $3.94 for regular gas.
Consumer prices surge across the country and in Chico
It’s not just gas prices that are going up. A manager at the co-op in Chico said the price increase is due to challenges from earlier stages of the pandemic. The consumer price index jumped up 4.2% in April, which is the biggest jump since 2008. A Chico State professor said he believes prices will normalize by the end of 2021.
