REDDING, Calif. – If you have recovered from Covid-19, there is a new way for you to help others who are fighting to survive the disease. You can donate your blood plasma.
Vitalant is searching for people who have survived the Coronavirus and would like to donate. Joe Ayer, Vitalant’s Senior Manager of Recruitment, said the plasma donors they are searching for “are people who have had Covid-19 and they have the antibodies from Covid-19.”
“Your body uses antibodies to fight out disease,” said Ayer. “This is like injecting a power boost of antibodies into their system to help fight this,” he explained.
Watch the video to see Action News Now reporter Ana Torrea explain how the process works. She describes the equipment that is used and what it entails.
Vitalant says they have had several people come in over the last few months to donate their plasma. Ayer said they are always looking for more blood donations, including plasma, to help people recover who are having to fight the Coronavirus.
