REDDING, Calif. - The owner of a new movie studio in Redding is hoping his business will attract filmmakers and put Redding on the map for movie production.
Owner of Top Dollar Movie Studio Kasey Dollar has a vision to turn a warehouse space off North Market Street in Redding into a full fledged movie studio and sound stage.
“It'll slowly get to that point,” Dollar said. “Right now, we're kind of building it out to prove the concept that we can do a movie studio in Redding.”
He got the idea to convert the space into a studio after lending it to local filmmaker Rene Perez for his last movie.
“And we got to talking, and I heard his producers were all out of town, LA and other countries,” Dollar said. “And I thought it would be pretty neat to keep everything local in Redding.”
But Dollar hasn't always been in the movie business.
During the day, he flips houses for a living.
But after flipping nearly 100 homes in the community, he was looking to get into something new.
“So it was really just amazing timing that I ran into Rene decided to put my mind towards movie producing,” he said. “And I'm still going to continue flipping houses, but using the money I might make on this. I'm going to invest that right back into Redding.”
Right now he and perez are working on a three-part project called “The Vampire and the Vigilante” that they hope to eventually turn into a series.
“And so that's our big project,” Dollar said. “It's taken a while to get our main actor out of L.A., so we're going to go ahead and start a different movie called “Bring the Pain.”
Unlike L.A., Dollar said it's relatively easy to get permits to shoot in Shasta County.
And he said everyone he’s met is more than willing to help in the movie making process.
“And everybody's really open to being a part of this and helping out because it's going to really put Redding on the map as far as a movie/film place.
Top Dollar Movie Studio is having its ribbon cutting ceremony 6PM Friday at 895 North Market Street in Redding.
Dollar invites anyone 18 or older with acting or movie making experience to stop on by.
