BUTTE COUNTY, Calif.- The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the North Complex and Dixie Fire burn scar areas.

Heavy rainfall is expected all over Butte County from Saturday evening through late Sunday, according to the Butte County Sheriff's Office.

The Flash Flood Watch could upgrade to a Flash Flood Warning if flash flooding becomes imminent.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office advises people to prepare now to evacuate in case of debris flows and if flooding occurs in the burn scar areas.

The NWS said that debris flow happens over burn scars when there is no vegetation to absorb water and keep soil in place. That combined with a fast moving-mix of mud, ash and debris can form and move downslope faster than you can run or drive.

If you live in the areas or are near a waterway downstream from the impacted area be prepared to evacuate to higher ground if an evacuation order is placed or you feel in danger.

Significant rain can also impact local waterways and roads prone to flooding.

The Sheriff's Office urges the community to limit driving if possible throughout the heavy rainfall.

Sand and sandbags are available throughout Butte County but residents will need to bring their own shovels.

Residents who have not signed up for CodeRed alerts are urged to do so.
