Traffic cleared, 4 hospitalized after crash on Highway 273

All lanes are open on Highway 273 after a crash at the Westwood Avenue intersection.

UPDATE 4:50 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2019 - According to the Redding Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of Highway 273 and Westwood Avenue due to reports of a rollover traffic collision involving three vehicles. 

Witnesses at the scene reported that three people were trapped inside a white pickup truck that was overturned. Citizens in the area helped to push the vehicle over and rescue the people trapped inside. 

Another vehicle involved was a maroon Coupe, which was stopped on the sidewalk on the east side of Highway 273. The third vehicle involved was not located. 

The three people in the pickup truck were transported to Mercy Medical Center and Shasta Regional Medical Center. The person in the maroon Coupe was transported to Mercy Medical Center. 

Authorities have not released the names of those involved or the status of their injuries.

UPDATE 3:16 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2019 - All lanes are open on Highway 273 after a crash at the Westwood Avenue intersection.

A white pickup truck carrying four people hit a compact car carrying one person. At least five people were taken to the hospital. 

Police said the truck driver lost control while speeding south and swerved into oncoming traffic. 

Authorities have not confirmed the extent of the injuries. Police are investigating the accident as a possible DUI.

SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - Authorities are at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 273 and Westwood Ave, just south of Bonnyview Road. 

The crash involved at least two vehicles. 

The intersection is currently closed to traffic as authorities clean up the scene. 

There is an ambulance at the scene but authorities have not confirmed whether there are any injuries.
