A modest drop in temperatures and the chance for mountain thunderstorms are ahead for your weekend.

Some relief from the severe heat is on the way for the next couple of days, but temperatures will still be at or above average across Northern California. Skies are starting out mostly clear this morning, and are expected to stay mostly sunny through your Friday. Temperatures have dipped into the 60's to mid 70's in the valley overnight, and into the 50's in most mountain areas this morning. Winds are starting out out of the Northeast again this morning, but will shift to become out of the South to 10mph this afternoon. The Delta Breeze is expected to have more influence over high temperatures this afternoon, and that should help to keep us a bit more comfortable later today. High temperatures are projected to climb into the 97 to 102 degree range in the valley this afternoon, and mountain areas are expected to top out in the high 80's to low 90's. Humidity is expected to stay above 15 percent this afternoon. Fire danger will be in the high range for your Friday.

The potential for mountain thunderstorms will return as early as this evening across the Sierra, but the majority of the active weather will be to our South today. There will be a better chance for active weather returning to our area on Saturday and Sunday. The brunt of the activity is expected to stay in higher elevations, but we cannot rule out isolated thunderstorm activity in the valley. Temperatures will range from the mid 90's to low triple digits in the valley through the weekend, and mountain areas will end up in the 80's to mid 90's. Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy through the weekend.

High pressure builds back into Northern California for the start of next week, and that is expected to kick off another warming trend. Temperatures will end up back in the triple digits for the entire valley on Tuesday, and will continue to climb through the middle of next week.
