RED BLUFF, Calif. - The missing kayaker who went missing Friday was found dead on Wednesday at approximately 10:58 a.m., according to the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office.
Matthew Lee Powers was found in the area of the Sacramento River about half a mile north of the Red Bluff Diversion Dam.
His death is believed to be the result of an accidental drowning following a kayaking incident.
On July 2, deputies responded to a report of a boating crash in the China Rapids area of Red Bluff.
Powers was overturned in the rapids and was struggling to stay at the top of the water as he was not wearing a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) but had one inside of the kayak.
Powers tried to stay with the kayak but was later pulled underwater.
