REDDING AND CHICO, Calif. - Two long-standing Memorial Day services have been called off in Northern California because of COVID-19.
The Shasta County Veterans Affiliated Council announced Wednesday that their 27th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony on May 30th will be canceled this year to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Governor Gavin Newsom's stay-at-home orders have not yet been lifted to allow large-scale gatherings.
The traditional Memorial Day ceremonies have also been canceled at Chico Cemetery and Glen Oaks Memorial Park in Chico.
Coordinator Clark Masters told Action News Now that it's a matter of safety and acting responsibly.
Instead of attending the events, you're encouraged to honor and remember fallen veterans by displaying the American Flag at home.
