CHICO, Calif. - The Chico Compost Facility is closed temporarily after city officials said the site has reached its max capacity.

Waste Management recently let city officials know on Tuesday that they had to comply with state regulatory permits and close the facility to commercial customers on Friday.

City officials are working with law enforcement to see if a temporary exception can be granted in order to continue providing access to the public until materials can be moved off-site.

The public is encouraged to use other sites for recycling and yard waste such as Old Durham Wood at 1156 Oro-Chico Hwy in Durham or Recology Butte Colusa County facility at 2720 S. 5th Ave. in Oroville.

For more information or question call Waste Management at (530)-624-3529.

It is unknown when the facility will reopen.
