PARADISE, Calif. - A Mars rover will commemorate the town of Paradise by carrying two tiles to the Jezero Crater in February of 2021.

The announcement was made by officials at the Paradise Town Council meeting on Tuesday, June 11.

NASA will carry the name of the town and "Paradise Strong" aboard its NASA 2020 Rover, which will launch from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in July of 2020.

Town Councilwoman Melissa Schuster said a man named Jerry Stoces reached out to the town letting them know that he organized for two tiles on the rover to commemorate Paradise.

In a letter to the town, Stoces said his friend Stella Van Keeken lost everything in the Camp Fire and that she has since relocated to Southern California.

His letter reads in part, "I am so happy to have the courage, heart and indomitable spirit of Paradise, ride with us, as we write these new chapters of exploration..."

We have beautiful weather around northern California right now, but it will get a lot more unsettled this weekend as a storm moves overhead. We can expect gusty wind, a big cooldown, and areas of light to moderate rain.
