Humboldt County, Calif. --

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Explosive Ordnane Disposal Team detonated a marine flare found on a beach.

The Sheriff's Office says a beach-goer found the flare on Samoa Beach in the area of Fairhaven T, just off New Navy Base Road, at around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Humboldt EOD Team consulted the Beale Air Force Base EOD Unit in order to determine the type of flare found, and the proper procedure to render the flare safe.

New Navy Base Road was temporarily shut down while EOD deputies rendered the flare safe. No word on how the flare ended up in the sand on Samoa Beach.
