CHICO, Calif. – Chico family practitioner and local physician leader Marcia Nelson has received Enloe’s latest Physician Legacy Award.
This makes Nelson the first woman to hold the honor since the award was founded 15 years ago, the medical center announced.
Nominations for the award are submitted by doctors on the medical staff, employees, volunteers, and community members. Afterward, Enloe’s medical executive committee reviews the nominations and announces the winner.
Dr. Nelson began practicing medicine in Chico and joined Enloe’s medical staff in 1989. She has served as Enloe’s chief medical officer since 2005, representing physicians in hospital operations and supporting physician leaders in providing quality care.
She has led the Enloe Quality Summit since it launched in 2009. This annual event highlights quality initiatives throughout the medical center and sets new priorities.
“Dr. Nelson is a gifted leader who supports physicians and encourages quality care at Enloe and in Chico,” said Cardiologist Peter Magnusson. Dr. Magnusson presented the award to Dr. Nelson and was the 2016 recipient.
