CHICO, Calif.- With record unemployment because of the coronavirus pandemic, many people are running into roadblocks with their claims.
Reporter Kristian Lopez spoke with one man who shared his struggles.
William Hedden says he filed for unemployment two weeks ago, but he keeps running into roadblocks.
"They're supposed to send you a code and that's a key to get to the next step," Hedden said.
However, he says he has not received his code in the mail and has been trying to contact a live representative for help but has been unable to get through.
He says, "I tried contacting them and it gives you a number then hangs up on you at the end, it gives you another number with an automated message and it hangs up on you again."
Reporter Kristian Lopez contacted the governor's office but was unable to get through, and sent an email regarding the issue.
The local EDD offices in Chico are also closed until further notice.
"We just need to be able to contact EDD, especially when this is a key part of the unemployment claim process, we need a path to contact to them," Hedden said.
Action News Now is still waiting to get an email response from the governor's office, and will share an update as soon as it becomes available.
