THERMALITO, Calif. - The Butte County Sheriff's Office said it has arrested a man who was wanted for a South Dakota stabbing and was found staying in Thermalito.
Officials say they were informed on May 19 by the U.S. Marshals Service that Johnathon Earth of Nebraska could be in Oroville after learning he had family in the area.
Upon further information, the service believed Earth was staying at a home on Vaquero Drive in Thermalito.
Earth was wanted in South Dakota for a stabbing that happened on May 7, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Butte County officials say they conducted surveillance on the home and confirmed the 38-year-old was there.
On May 20, the county's SWAT team and members of the U.S. Marshals Service served an arrest warrant at the Vaquero Drive home.
Earth would not come out of the home and officials say the SWAT team made multiple announcements over the speaker system for about an hour trying to get him to come out.
Finally, at about 10:20 a.m., officials say the SWAT team went into the home and found Earth hiding inside a clothes dryer.
He was placed under arrest and taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service without further incident.
Officials say several others from the home were also detained but later released.
