Man shot at Redding apartment complex dies at hospital

The Redding Police Department is trying to find out why a man was shot Friday night at apartments on Churn Creek Road.

REDDING, Calif. – A man who had been shot at an apartment complex on the 3600 block of Churn Creek Road Friday night died at Mercy Medical Center afterward.

According to the Redding Police Department, the shooting occurred shortly after 9 p.m. Friday night.

A portion of the apartment complex where the shooting occurred stayed closed for more than 12 hours as police conducted their investigation and contacted potential witnesses.

Police said they learned that the victim was involved in a confrontation with a group of men right before the shooting, but they were unclear about what the confrontation was about.

The group of men left the apartment area prior to the arrival of police officers.

The name of the person who died from the gunshot wound is not being released until the next of kin is notified.
