OROVILLE, Calif. - What started as a family trip from San Pablo to the Bidwell Marina Campground for the Fourth of July holiday, ended with the death of 20-year-old Tyler Dickson.

Action News Now spoke with Dickson’s uncle who said that he woke up on July 3 to find his nephew dead in his tent.

The family is hurting, but they still want answers.

California State Parks Law Enforcement called in the Butte County Sheriff's Office to take over the investigation.

They got to the scene around 5 a.m. on Saturday and did not give out many details except that there is evidence pointing to murder.

Dickson’s godparent told Action News Now that Dickson was a great kid and athlete.

He just wants to know what happened to his godson.

The Sheriff’s office believes that it was an isolated incident, so there is no immediate risk to the public, but the investigation is ongoing.

Butte County investigators are asking anyone who may know something about this to call them at 530-538-7671.
