REDDING, Calif. - A man has been found guilty of assaulting a Redding Dutch Bros employee.
The Shasta County District Attorney's Office said 25-year-old Devan Nelson stole the employee's wallet and keys before attempting to steal their car on the morning of Aug. 11.
The victim's car, a Nissan, was parked outside the Dutch Bros Coffee drive-through. Nelson first attempted to open the door of a Honda parked next to the victim's car but failed because the keys were for a Nissan.
The victim believed Nelson was going to steal the Nissan, and the victim stood in front of the Nissan parked next to the Honda to prevent Nelson from stealing the Nissan.
Nelson pushed them and punched them in the face. He then attempted to drive off but couldn't get the car to start. After failing his attempt, Nelson fled the scene. Officers located Nelson shortly after.
He ran away and officers quickly found and arrested him.
Nelson's sentencing is scheduled for March 6, 2020, at the Shasta County Courthouse.
