SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Police in Northern California have arrested a man suspected of raping and robbing a middle school teacher inside her classroom as she prepared for the new school year.

San Jose Police Chief Eddie Garcia says 23-year-old Andrew Bracamonte was arrested Thursday in the sexual assault and robbery of a Harker Middle School teacher.

He says Bracamonte had shaved his head and was trying to flee the area when he was arrested in San Francisco.

Garcia says Bracamonte lived about a quarter mile away from the San Jose school and that investigators are trying to figure out why he attacked the teacher Tuesday morning as she prepared for the start of the new school year that day.

A trough of low pressure is moving over northern California this afternoon and tonight, and that will increase our wind speed and raise our area's fire danger even further. The wind will be weaker Thursday, but the smoke will get worse.
