Man arrested for vehicle burglary and vehicle theft

A man was arrested for vehicle burglary and vehicle theft in Chico Wednesday morning.

CHICO, Calif. - A man was arrested after police received information of a man stealing items from a vehicle in Chico, according to the Chico Police Department.

Around 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to W. Seventh St. and Orange St. as a person reported a man taking items from a vehicle and leaving.

When police arrived, they confirmed the vehicle was an unreported stolen vehicle. The owner last saw the vehicle before going to sleep.

The officer investigating obtained surveillance video of the suspect who was wearing a red beanie cap.

The suspect then rode a bike within a block of the officer who eventually contacted the man.

He was identified as 40-year-old Michael Runnels.

Runnels was in possession of stolen property from the vehicle. The officer also located stolen property at his belongings at Depot Park.

Runnels was arrested for vehicle burglary and vehicle theft. He was booked into the Butte County Jail.
