HAPPY CAMP, Calif. - The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office said a man was arrested after he was found with a sword and meth.

On Dec. 23, officials say they were called about a man making criminal threats. When they arrived, officials searched the area for about 20 minutes then a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle reportedly being driven by the suspect.

Near the Happy Camp Post Office, the suspect, David Lee McBurney, was contacted and officials say because he was on probation for prior offenses, they searched his vehicle.

In the vehicle, they found a Samurai sword and meth, as well as drug paraphernalia.

McBurney, who had not contacted his probation officer since the first of November, was booked into the Siskiyou County Jail on charges of illegal possession of the sword and possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.

“This was a good example of an alert deputy observing a man suspected to have committed an offense he previously investigated, which resulted in the suspect’s arrest and confiscation of a dangerous weapon, drugs, and drug paraphernalia," said Sheriff Jon Lopey. "We appreciate the report we received from the citizen as well, which helped lead to the suspect’s arrest.”

Officials ask if anyone has any information about the case to contact their dispatch center at 530-841-2900.
