Man arrested for arson near Redding's Sacramento River Trail

An arson suspect was arrested Sunday after several small fires were discovered by Redding firefighters near the Sacramento River Trail.

REDDING, Calif. – A 42-year-old man was arrest for arson on Sunday shortly after 1:00 a.m. in Redding.

The Redding Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire at 380 Overhill Drive in Redding near the Sacramento River Trail.

Firefighters said they discovered five small extinguished fires of dry vegetation in the area and believed a possible suspect was still in the area.

A fire investigator contacted suspect Terry Sargent who they said admitted to starting the fire.

Sargent was arrested for arson and was booked into the Shasta County Jail.
