BURNEY, Calif. - A man and a dog died in a structure fire in Burney early Tuesday morning.

At around 2:53 a.m., the Burney Fire Department received reports of a structure fire with a person trapped inside.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a fully-involved double-wide structure within a trailer park in flames, which were spreading to the neighboring residence.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, keeping the major damage to the original structure.

Two residents were home at the time the fire broke out. Both a man and woman made it out of the structure, but the man went back inside to find their dog. The man and the dog both died in the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The female resident was transported by ambulance to the Mayers Memorial Hospital. The male resident has not yet been identified.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
