OROVILLE, Calif. - A 24-year-old woman was traveling from Cresent City to Oroville to mourn the death of her mother last week but never showed up. Now her family is concerned, saying she is 12 weeks pregnant and is at risk, with a history of depression. They are seeking the public's help in finding the missing woman, Samantha Ann McSweeney.

Family members believe McSweeney made it to Oroville and was dropped off at a shopping center by her roommate, who then drove back to Crescent City. Her family said the last they heard from her was by text at 8:59 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 14. She said she was about an hour away from Oroville and would message when she arrived, because she was driving.

There has been no word from her since then, and her family has filed a missing person's case with the Oroville Police Department. Family members say she has not been active on social media and has not responded to any text messages or phone calls.

A cousin said the family has no idea which shopping center McSweeney was dropped off at in Oroville onSept. 14. The only clue they have is that her roommate says she got into an ocean blue early 2000s Ford Mustang that they believe belonged to a cousin of McSweeney's ex-boyfriend.

McSweeney had been planning to stay at the parents of the ex-boyfriend, said her cousin, Kayla Johnson. She told Action News Now that the ex-boyfriend's parents claim McSweeney never showed up at their home. The ex-boyfriend, Josh Cruz, told the family he has not seen McSweeney.

McSweeney's mother, Cheryl Anne Barnes, passed away on Sept. 10 after a series of heart attacks. McSweeney was coming to Oroville to help the family lay her mother to rest but has not been seen since, according to family members.

Samantha Ann McSweeney is approximately five feet six inches tall. She may be about 175 pounds.  She has an octopus tattoo on her forearm and piercing under her lip.

If you have information on the whereabouts of Samantha Ann McSweeney, please contact the Oroville Police Department at (530) 538-2448.

Monday was almost as hot as Sunday for most of northern California as a ridge of high pressure controlled our weather. A cooling trend is coming, but it will only cool to seasonable levels in the short term.
