The Butte County Cororner's office has released the identity of the man killed in a head-on crash between Chico and Gridley 7 a.m. Wednesday on highway 99 just East of Richvale. He's identifed as 39-year old Donald Herrmann of Corning.
California Highway Patrol Officer Ryan Lambert says Herrmann was in the passenger seat, as his fiance 36-year old Holly Logan, was driving northbound on the highway. It was then he says Logan crossed the center line and hit an oncoming car head on. Herrmann died on scene. Logan suffered minor injuries.
Kimberlee Bainbridge of Los Molinos was in the other vehicle. She was airlifted from the scene to Enloe Medical Center with major injuries.
Bainbridge reached out to Action News Now Reporter Sara Stinson to tell her she is still at Enloe 24 hours later.
"This is just horrible like I said this is only 3 days into the year and this is not how we wanted to start out," said Ryan Lambert, CHP Officer.
The CHP is still investigating what caused Logan to lose control of the car, but they do say that alcohol and drugs were not factors.
