Locals extinguish small fire northeast of Cherokee in Butte County

At 10:35 a.m. CAL FIRE dispatchers received a report of a fire on Rocky Top Road in Butte County.

BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - A small fire was reported Saturday morning northeast of the community of Cherokee in Butte County, but it was quickly extinguished by alert neighbors and the Cherokee Volunteer Fire Department.

At 10:35 a.m. CAL FIRE dispatchers received a report of a fire on Rocky Top Road. It is being referred to as the Rocky Incident.

When CAL FIRE engines arrived they said it had already been extinguished, so the fire engines and crews returned to their bases.

According to CAL FIRE, it is still unclear exactly what caused the fire, but they said it was local people acting quickly that helped put the fire out before they arrived on the scene.
