Local retailers prep for an early Black Friday

"Black Friday is all about getting "new-in-box" getting something great to put under the Christmas tree," said Masse.

Black Friday is getting a head start again this year.

"We'll open Thanksgiving at 6p.m., that's what our retailers and our shoppers have told us they wanted to do ... We have over 40 stores opening on Thanksgiving," said Lynette Myers, Marketing Manager at the Chico Mall.

And when the big day rolls around, every store at the Chico Mall will be open from 6 a.m. To 9p.m. Friday.

Stores like Bath & Body, JC Penny and Victoria's Secret will all be open all night long.

The staggered and extended hours are meant to save people from sleeping out in the cold to score the best savings.

"I've never done that, I think it's crazy! I mean I love this store but I like to have more room and time to browse and get things for Christmas," said Ginny Craft, a local shopper.

But the camping still happens. In fact for some, it's tradition.

The places that usually see the largest amount of overnight campers? They're usually tech stores, like Best Buy here in Chico.

"Usually when we prep the store Wednesday evening, we'll already have campers,"said Gregg Masse, manager at Best Buy in Chico. "We've seen huge demands for television, the price points are like nothing you'll see the rest of the year, and anything Apple branded is not commonly on sale as much so those are the big things that people are going to hop in line or camp out for."

It's not old inventory ... They're already unloading products by the ton.

"We're talking latest and greatest .. Black Friday is all about getting "new-in-box" getting something great to put under the Christmas tree," said Masse.

This year's big must-haves? 4K TVs and voice control smart home systems.

"I'd love to shop for myself and get a new TV, I hope my husband sees this tonight and maybe he'll get a hint!" said Craft.

"I have a 13 year old son so Game Stop is definitely the spot I'll be going to shop for him," said Myers.
