CHICO, Calif.- We’re in day two of phase two for reopening the state. That means many florists are back in business just in time for Mother’s Day, one of their busiest days of the year.
Action News Now spoke with the owner of Flowers by Rachelle. Workers have been busy putting flower arrangements together over the past few days.
"People have no other way to be together they have no way to touch each other than through flowers," said Rachelle Neal AIFD.
However, there are unexpected challenges during this pandemic.
"We are kind of having a worldwide flower shortage because over the last six weeks, flower growers have been plowing their fields because florists have not been open and able to buy," Neal said.
But Neal says business is blooming this Mother's Day weekend and they are taking all the precautions.
She says all workers are wearing masks, everyone is using hand sanitizer and they have various hand-washing stations.
All of the deliveries are also contact free. Despite losing revenue from large events, Neal says they're staying optimistic.
"My weddings have been postponed, not cancelled, I think Fall and next year will be a really big wedding year."
Neal says they expect a total of about 500 deliveries this Mother's Day weekend which is more than it has been in past years.
Flowers by Rachelle is open Monday through Saturday, but you can place an order anytime by visiting their website.
