CHICO, Calif. - Downtown Chico is starting to come back to life as we move further into phase two of Governor Newsom's reopening plan.
Many clothing stores are back in business after being closed for almost two months.
Reporter Kristian Lopez spoke with the owners of For Elyse and 5th Street Clothing Company.
Both stores are ramping up safety measures to keep their customers safe, and they tell Action News Now they are excited to be back serving the community.
At "For Elyse," all employees are wearing masks, following social-distancing, and constantly cleaning and sanitizing.
"It feels good, we are excited to be back and people are happy that we are back open," said mother-daughter duo, Amber and Elyse Kierig, owners of the popular clothing shop, For Elyse.
They are fully stocked with inventory. If people do not want to shop in the store, you can also shop online at Forelyse.com
5th Street Clothing Company is also back open. The owner Carol Munson says they've seen a positive response from the community.
She says they are making sure their customers are safe.
"It's been great. It's very refreshing, it has been wonderful and customers are enjoying their time here," Munson said.
Local shoppers say they are excited but being cautious while out shopping.
Munson says they are following social-distancing, providing hand-sanitizer, and using UV lights to kill germs and bacteria.
"Certainly things have changed I've been more aware of people and everyone seems to be following the rules for the most part, so I'm confident," said shopper, Lisa Bruener.
If you don't comfortable shopping in person, both businesses have websites where you can shop online.
