CHICO, Calif. - A local attorney from Chico who was the first undocumented immigrant to pass the state bar exam in the United States is now taking great strides to support healthcare workers here at home.

Attorney, Sergio Garcia says he wanted to do something to show his appreciation for frontline workers while also helping a local business.

Garcia donated $10,000 to Heel and Sole Shoes in Chico, so they could give away free shoes to those who are on the frontlines every day.

"We wanted to do something nice, this year that has been so hard on everybody," said Garcia.

He says the owners of the store were grateful and excited to get the donation.

"I don't think the government has stepped up enough to help these local businesses." He added,  "I think we have to do whatever we can to be together and help each other especially here locally, we wanted to do this here in Butte County, for frontline workers risking their lives day in and day out."

They will be giving the shoes away to police officers, firefighters, medical workers, hospital janitorial staff, and teachers.

Workers can pick out a pair of shoes valued up to $50 at Heel and Sole Shoes starting on Wednesday, December 23.

It was a bright and breezy Friday for northern California, however the wind has been much stronger over Modoc County where a High Wind Warning is in effect through this evening. Stronger wind and cooler air will define our weather Saturday.
