MODOC COUNTY, Calif.-  A local emergency has been declared in Modoc County by the Public Health Officer and Director of Emergency Services due to the coronavirus.

There are currently no confirmed cases of the virus within the county, according to county officials.

However, they said in a press release Thursday that cases are confirmed in neighboring Klamath and Washoe Counties.

The county officials said they worked closely with local medical service providers to determine that the potential of the virus is beyond the control of the services, personnel, equipment, and facilities of the county.

They state that they made the declaration due to the cost of supplies, planning, and preparation being beyond what the county can support.

In the press release, the officials said that the best way to protect yourself and others is to use good hygiene and stay away from others who are sick.
