RED BLUFF, Calif. – Thunderstorms dumped rain and even hail in the North State area into Monday evening.

A lightning bolt sliced right through the roof of one home north of Red Bluff.

Located on Niche Road, west of Interstate five. The damage was evident on the outside of the home and video showed extensive damage that was done in the bedroom.

The homeowner, Ed Wesner, told Action News Now he was in his bedroom when he heard a loud boom. He looked over to see that his sprinkler timer had exploded.

"I was sitting there and this thing went off with a great great sound at the initial sound," Wesner said. "I mean it just set my ears ringing, it was really loud like a hand grenade and it was right here in this room, it just....it was totally shocking."

The owner said he managed to put out the flames quickly. He estimates the damage could be well over $5,000 -- fortunately, no one was injured.
