California Lieutenant Governor Candidates

Action News Now is breaking down the candidates in major races in the 2018 Midterm Elections.

Eleni Kounalakis - 3,291,408 votes, 55.7 percent
Ed Hernandez - 2,614,679 votes, 44.3 percent

**REMINDER: These are the unofficial results from the midterm elections. All official results must be certified by the Secretary of State.


One of the major races on the ballot on Nov. 6 is for California Lieutenant Governor.


  • Assumes the office and duties of Governor in the case of impeachment, death, resignation, removal from office, or absence from the state.

  • Serves as president of the State Senate and has a tie-breaking vote.

  • Chairs the Commission for Economic Development; is a member of the State Lands Commission, and the Ocean Protection Council; and sits on the boards of the California university systems
