BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. - Starting in the month of September the Butte County Library is offering library cardholders with outstanding library fines, fee amnesty.
In honor of “National Library Card Sign-Up Month,” the whole month of September, library cardholders with that financial problem can visit any Butte County library branch to have their fines forgiven.
The Butte County Library branches include Biggs (464A B Street), Chico (1108 Sherman Ave), Durham (2545 Durham-Dayton Hwy), Gridley (299 Spruce St), Oroville (1820 Mitchell Ave) and Paradise (5922 Clark Road).
Butte County Library officials say more than 3,300 cardholders have blocked accounts because they have more than $10 in fines for unreturned items.
Thirty-percent of those blocked accounts are people from under the age of 18, according to the library.
The library expects to wave up to $1,300 in fines and receive up to 200 overdue books.
